Artist Statement

Originally from Macon, GA, Greg completed a BFA at East Carolina University in Greenville, NC.

He is a member of Carolina Clay Matters and loves to be involved in community education. He was formally

an assistant designer in the digital studio at Paramount Show Services. He is currently developing new ideas

that have emerged from his experience at Paramount and is in the process of exploring the boundaries between

drawing, painting, and ceramic media.

“The transitions from one medium to the next allow a wealth of experiences to choose the solutions for

the form and content of a chosen subject. After the transitions are made and an idea is realized, I am left with

the bridges that I’ve crossed and the experience gained. The connections that are made when we move across

the boundaries of media are a great source of inspiration and momentum for personal growth for artists.”

The vessels that I have presented are forms that represent the rituals that are the journey of searching for

the mysteries of dedication, devotion and inspiration through art experiences and process .The works embody

the notions of ritual, change and transformation that are present in all forms of matter and life. The atmosphere

of the kiln and the intensity of the fire is conveyed by rich lustrous surfaces combined with the rawness of

the native clays that are brushed under and over the glaze, giving these vessels the ability to convey to the viewer

the constant change that is the ceramic process and a analogy for the changes that are life.
