Artist Statement

"I love to make pots that will be used in the kitchen. Plates, bakers, bowls of all sizes, cups and jars are just a few

of the pots I make. Pottery and food go hand in hand. Whether it is in the preparation stages of a meal or the final

presentation, pottery and good food compliment each other beautifully. My pots are quiet yet sometimes playful.

They reveal their character slowly over time during morning coffee, daily meals, and reflective moments in

the hands of the user.

All of my pots are sodium vapor glazed with salt and soda. I enjoy the look and feel of these pots. Sometimes

the colors are soft and subtle like the peel of an apple. Other times the pots look wet, with an orange peel texture

that is smooth to the touch. The results vary from firing to firing. It is an exciting process. After unloading the kiln

I am energized with new ideas and ready to get back to work.

Lately, I've been having a great time making pots and working on variations of pots that have been around

for years. It seems that the ideas are never ending; all I have to do is be open when I sit down to kick my wheel

and the clay will teach me. My desire is to make pots that have character and integrity that are as delightful

to use as they are for me to make."
