Class Schedule

 

Clayworks' ceramic program is designed for both the novice and experienced potter

and provides an overview for anyone interested in ceramics.

Students are encouraged to work at their own pace.

 

Tuition includes open studio time, glaze materials, firing fees, instruction,

25 pounds of clay and parking.

Clayworks reserves the right to cancel any class with insufficient enrollment.

Fees are 100% refundable if the class in canceled by Clayworks, 85% refundable

up to one week prior to the start of class if the student cancels.

There are no refunds or tuition credits after the start of class.

Beginning Wheel

Beginning Wheel Classes are designed for students that have never used the potter’s wheel and students that are still developing their basic throwing skills. Participants will learn how to center the clay on the wheel and make basic forms such as mugs, bowls, and vases. Students will learn how to finish their work with decorating and glazing techniques.

Intermediate Wheel

This class is designed for students that have completed beginning wheel class and want to improve their throwing skills. This class offers the students the opportunity to create more complex forms such as lidded vessels, teapots, and altered forms. Students will learn more complex decorating and glazing techniques.

Handbuilding

Handbuilding classes are designed for students that have no prior experience working with clay. This class will cover basic handbuilding techniques such as coiling, joined slabs, and drape molds. Participants will learn a variety of decorating and glazing techniques; using texture, slips and glazes. Class is primarily focused on vessel forms such as bowls, vases, teapots and boxes.

Advanced Wheel

Advanced wheel class is designed for students that have good throwing skills and need space and time to work. Critiques will be an integral part of class. Students are encouraged to work at their own pace. The instructor will provide appropriate demonstrations for all students in the class. The class will work primarily with cone 10 reduction firing. Surface techniques will be emphasized and expanded upon.

Independent Study

This program is designed for students to work independently during open studio hours. Firings will be done, as there is enough work to fire. Students must purchase clay from the studio. Students must have taken a class at Clayworks to sign up for this session.

Surface Design **Offered During Summer**

This class is designed for students to explore creative surface design techniques with glazes. Students will provide bisqueware to finish. Cone 6, cone 10 and raku glazing will be covered during class.
