Susan Hendley has spent the majority of her life in the Carolinas. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Art and a Bachelor of Arts in Art History, from Converse College in Spartanburg, South Carolina. While in South Carolina, she worked with the Spartanburg Art Museum, HUB-BUB Showroom Gallery, and The Bascom: A Visual Arts Center.
Susan returned to The Bascom for a summer residency in 2015, concentrating in functional ceramic forms. From North Carolina, she relocated to Birmingham, Alabama, as Education Coordinator and Studio Assistant for Earthborn Pottery, as well as a production assistant for Civil Stoneware, and ceramic artist and educator for MAKEBhm, a contemporary maker-space. She recently completed a fellowship with the Elsewhere Museum and teaching with The Forge, in Greensboro North Carolina. Susan currently lives and works in Charlotte, North Carolina, at the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art and Clayworks.
