Individual and Group lessons

At our Charlotte, NC studio, Clayworks offers private lessons for beginners and artists of any level. Choose between throwing on the potter’s wheel or creating a project using handbuilding techniques. Work with one of our talented instructors to make clay project that will last a lifetime.

  • Time: By appointment, based on studio availability. Please give us 5 days to process your request

  • Location: Clayworks

  • What’s included: Instruction, materials, firings and packaging of the artwork. Artwork created will be fired to maturity and will be food, dishwasher and microwave safe. The work will be available for pick up about 3 weeks after the lesson.

    Throwing on the potter's wheel -learn the basics of throwing
    Ages: Ages 11+ *exceptions can be made on a case by case basis
    Group size: 1-10 participants
    Length: 2 hours
    Cost: $165 for the first two people and $50 for each additional person

  • Handbuilding - choose a specific project to create
    Ages: 6+
    Group size: 1-15 participants *for larger groups, please contact shughes@clayworksinc.org
    Length: 2 hours
    Cost: $165 for the first two people and $50 for each additional person

Wheel throwing:

Working with one of our talented instructors, participants will learn the basics of throwing on the potter’s wheel. You will be given plenty of clay to practice with. At the end, each participant chooses their best 2 pieces and the glaze color they want them finished in; Clayworks takes care of the rest!

handbuilding:

One of our talented instructors will teach participants how to construct a project using different handbuilding techniques such as pinching, coiling and slabs to create a specific item. The instructor will introduce different techniques that participants can use to make their project one-of-a-kind. If you don’t have a project idea in mind, we can help!

custom lesson:

We have a variety of talented instructors that can help you grow your ceramic skills. Just let us know what you are looking for a we can design a lesson, or series of lessons just for you.
